Here's a neat article from the APA. The DSM-5 is coming out with several changes. Binge eating disorder was previously categorized as a "diagnosis for further study." Read the article to find out why this change was made!

Interesting and important that it is recognized, as BED definitely plays a role in the increasingly high rates of obesity, and yet it is often neglected. I've also heard that the new DSM is combining anorexia and bulimia into one category, as many people will exhibit facets of one and then move into the other. They are not as distinct as they classified them before.
That's interesting!
In addition, for Anorexia Nervosa, the DSM-5 has removed the criteria for amenorrhea. It is still possible to suffer from anorexia while having normal menses.
For Bulimia, the number of binge/purge episodes per week has been changed from 3-4 times per week to just one.
These changes will allow more people to receive effective care.
Thank goodness, now men can have eating disorders too! Do you have access to the new DSM?
Yea haha! Nope, I don't have access unfortunately. I just read articles here and there and pick up tidbits of info.
