Mentally Ill have reduced life expectancy

Here's an interesting read!

I guess it's not too surprising, but the difference compared to the average population is larger than many experts once thought.

That's really sad - we learned in class that a lot of anti-psychotics can cause metabolic syndrome (ie leading the way to cardiovascular diseases and diabetes). And also that Lithium for bipolar patients makes the mouth feel dry and people feel thirsty - if they turn to high-sugar drinks (like soda), they too are at higher risk for developing metabolic syndrome. Newer anti-psychotics have come out that supposedly reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome, but they, too, come with their own set of unwanted side effects. Thanks for sharing this article!
